How it works

Bring the pile. We’ll make it make sense.

You don’t need to know what any document is, or what to do with it. Drop it in, and Afterward gives you back plain words, the deadlines that truly matter, and the office that handles each step — at your own pace.

1

Add a document

Upload a PDF, photo, or scan — or just paste what a letter says. Everything is handled privately on the server; documents stay in your circle's vault.

2

We read it, carefully

Afterward identifies what the document is and reads only what's on the page — every value tied to where it was read. If something isn't there, it says so.

3

It becomes a calm checklist

Each document turns into a few clear steps, sorted into gentle phases, with any real deadline attached. You're never shown the whole mountain at once.

4

Each step ends at a door

Every step names the office that actually handles it — the court, Social Security, the insurer, your state — with the real way to reach them.

The journey, in calm phases

A few things are urgent. Most can wait.

Afterward sorts everything into phases so you can take the first days one at a time. Each step knows which phase it belongs to.

  1. The first days

Breathe. A few things are time-sensitive; most of it can wait. We'll surface what truly can't.

  2. Notify & secure

Tell the offices that need to know, and protect accounts and identity from fraud.

  3. Claims & benefits

Benefits and policies the family may be owed — Social Security, the VA, life insurance, retirement accounts.

  4. Settle the estate

Probate, taxes, and the legal work of closing the estate. This is where a professional often helps.

  5. Close out

The practical closures: accounts, utilities, subscriptions, and digital life.
