What Afterward is

Afterward reads the documents an estate generates — the letters, notices, bills, and forms — and explains them in plain language: what each says, what the deadlines are, and which office handles the next step. It helps a family get oriented and act in the right order.

What Afterward is not

Afterward is not a law firm, an accountant, or a financial advisor, and using it does not create any professional relationship. It does not give legal, tax, or financial advice, will not tell you what you are legally required to do, will not draft court filings, and never decides what you qualify for. When a step is legal or financial in nature, it points you to the probate court, the agency, or a professional. We name the door; you hold the key.

Accuracy, and your duty to confirm

We work hard to be honest — the engine quotes only what is on your document and flags anything it cannot ground. But rules, amounts, and deadlines vary by state and year and change over time. We provide everything as-is, without a warranty that it is complete, current, or fits your situation. Treat every date and amount as a prompt to verify with the office named on it, not as the final word.

Your content

The documents you add stay yours. You grant us only the limited permission needed to process them so we can give you your reading and run the service for you and the people you invite. You are responsible for having the right to share what you upload — please do not add other people’s private documents without their authority. How we handle your content is described in our Privacy Policy.

Your account

Accounts use a one-time link sent to your email instead of a password, so keep access to your email secure. You are responsible for activity in your circle and for whom you invite into it.

Acceptable use

• Do not use Afterward to break the law or to harm others.
• Do not upload documents you have no right to share.
• Do not attempt to overload, scrape, reverse-engineer, or abuse the service; we apply rate limits to keep it available for grieving families.

Free and paid features

Some features are free and some may require payment, but money never changes what the tool tells you or how carefully it reads your document. Pricing, where it applies, will be shown clearly before you are ever charged. Inviting family members is always free.

Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Afterward is provided without warranties and is not liable for decisions made in reliance on it; it is an aid to understanding, not a substitute for the court, the agency, or a professional. (The precise limitation and the governing jurisdiction will be finalized with counsel before this document takes effect.)
